The concept of a Vesemir prequel story was recently explored through the animated Netflix movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Unsurprisingly, the movie was a hit with fans, with the film showing Vesemir in his prime. Players got a deep look at the character’s backstory alongside some excellent action, showing that Geralt’s mentor was a great fighter during his younger years. While the older Vesemir certainly had a lot of charm and humor, it could be fun seeing a different side of him.
It seems like Reddit user pao_illustrator saw the potential in this idea, as their Witcher fan art shows what they believe a young Vesemir would look like. Unlike the Netflix film, which gives Vesemir short hair, this take on the character sees him with longer locks that resemble those of his older self. His facial hair is also similar, with the character clearly seen with a steel and silver sword on his back. A nice touch sees his intricate armor set bloodied up a bit, with a medallion also visible.
In the comments, Redditors like The_Big_Birdo say they prefer this take on Vesemir, as it more closely resembles what they feel he would look like in his younger years. Others, like milkdrinker3920 and bigjim1993, point out the similarities to Dutch Van Der Linde from Red Dead Redemption 2. Still, while it is fun to see some jokes about Geralt being told to stick to the plan, it is clear that most commenters love pao_illustrator’s take on Vesemir.
While Vesemir is sitting alone at the campfire, many would surely be interested in seeing his early interactions with Geralt of Rivia. While the next game is just as likely to follow Ciri or a completely unknown Witcher, seeing Vesemir train Geralt could make for an engaging story. With games like God of War and The Last of Us showing how well parent and child dynamic translates to the world of video games, it could be a lot of fun exploring Geralt and Vesemir’s bond more closely. Seeing the former follow the latter on hunts could be a ton of fun, and it would be a nice way to keep Geralt involved without cheapening his ending in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Regardless, it will be a while before fans learn what the next Witcher game will be like. While players have come up with many great concepts, this artwork of a younger Vesemir makes it far easier to imagine a Witcher game that takes the form of a prequel.
