While Nvidia and AMD have been putting out products, with speculations of more to come to see this GPU generation out, many have been waiting patiently to see what Intel will offer up when its own graphics cards get released. With the desktop version of the Arc Alchemist due this summer, possibly June at the latest, it seems the company has unofficially delayed the launch given that it was allegedly due out sooner. However, it looks as though the tech firm will be showing off the laptop variant very soon.
According to the official company website, Intel is getting ready to give people a “first look” at its upcoming Arc products, specifically for laptops. This confirms that the mobile iterations of this new line of GPUs will be coming out before desktop and workstation models. The site says that the event will begin on March 30 at 8am pacific. Outside that, however, there are very few details to go on, such as exactly which models will be shown and when people can expect them to hit the shelves. However, speculations will be inbound, no doubt.
Intel announced it would be joining the GPU world in Q3 of last year, and since then, there has been a lot of word spreading about what people can expect, and how it could stack up against team green and team red’s hardware. Benchmark tests have shown that it will likely be able to take on the likes of Nvidia’s RTX 3070, possibly even the 3070 Ti, so it looks as though the tech giant will be aiming for the mid-to-high end of the market, but that will only likely be confirmed once the Arc is in the hands of reviewers and customers.
Despite an initial release, Intel seemed to push the Q1 Arc launch back, though did not officially state why. It was mostly noted after a subtle change on the website said that the GPU would be coming “2022” whereas it originally said it would be coming “Q1, 2022.” Some have speculated that the company wished to work on the drivers some more before making the hardware available, but at the time, those were just rumors.
With Intel itself saying that the tech shortages could go on until 2023, it’s hard to know what the market will look like as and when the Arc laptop and desktop variants are released. However, in the interim, those who are keen on a laptop containing the new GPU will likely be interested in checking out the showcase the company is putting on later this month.
