Owned by Meta, Instagram is one of the world’s most popular photo and video sharing platforms. With a userbase of 1.4 billion people, it also happens to be the fourth largest social media network.

In 2019, Instagram witnessed a surge in influencer marketing and recorded an impressive growth of somewhere around 48%. But despite its popularity, bugs and issues trouble users every once in a while.

In the last few weeks, several users have faced problems like DMs not working, down or stuck at delivering and Explore page resetting or showing nature images.

Adding to the long list of issues, Android users are reporting that they are stuck on a black screen when trying to open Instagram (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10).

Some tried restarting their phone, clearing data and cache, and reinstalling the app but nothing seems to help.

While Instagram developers are yet to officially comment on the black screen issue on Android devices, we happened to stumble across a potential workaround.

It requires users to install the Instagram app in Parallel Apps or Dual Apps if your smartphone has it and enable the toggle for the app.

Let us hope Instagram developers take a look at user reports and fix the problem with an update as soon as possible.

Update 1 (August 9, 2022)

10:55 am (IST): It seems that many Instagram users are reporting that they are getting stuck on a white screen as well. This depends on the app’s theme (dark or light).

So if the app is set to dark, you may get stuck with a black screen and vice-versa. Instagram is yet to fix the problem since reports about it are still popping up on Twitter.

Update 2 (August 15, 2022)

06:12 pm (IST): A new Instagram beta is now available and users can sideload the APK and see if the issue with black screen has been resolved.

Update 3 (August 18, 2022)

05:19 pm (IST): Instagram app has received a new update on Android with v248.0.0.17.109. Those affected can install it and see if the issue with white or black screen gets resolved.

Update 4 (August 30, 2022)

01:48 pm (IST): According to some of those affected, the issue where users are getting black or white screen on Instagram has been resolved.
