Instagram has always taken a firm stance on the content that is shown on the platform. They introduced a sensitive content control feature to combat NSFW content.

You can use this to control how much sensitive content appears in the Explore section. However, there seems to be an issue with this function.

Instagram showing NSFW or explicit content

Recently, many Instagram users have been facing an issue where the ‘Explore’ tab repeatedly starts showing NSFW or explicit nude content (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9).

At times, the Explore tab might feel like the Wild West. The ‘Explore’ section should display content linked to a user’s prior searches but that’s not happening in those cases.

The affected users claim that posts and reels of girls posing in seminude clothes or performing obscene scenes have suddenly taken over the Explore page.

Users consider this very upsetting and offensive as it is not the content they want to view, and it doesn’t go away even after selecting the ‘not interested’ option.

There is no official acknowledgment of this issue yet from the Instagram team. But in the meanwhile, there is a potential fix that involves liking something else rather than hitting the ‘not interested’ button:

In any case, we’ll keep track of the situation and post an update if and when there are any further developments regarding the matter, so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
