Respawn Entertainment has proven itself to be one of the best development studios in the industry. Ever since the release of the original Titanfall in 2014, the studio has released multiple games loved by both fans and critics.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends were both a massive success. Apex Legends continues to get updates and a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order is rumored to be in development. In addition, Respawn is reportedly working on a secret third game. Now, a new rumor aims to shed some light on this secret title currently in development.

Industry insider Jeff Grubb claims that Respawn is working on AAA first-person shooter. It will have a big focus on “mobility” and “style,” but it is apparently unrelated to the Titanfall franchise. He mentions that Mohammad Alavi, perhaps best known for his work on the No Russian level in Modern Warfare 2, was the creative director of this title before his departure a couple of days ago. While every rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, Grubb does have an excellent track record of accurately leaking industry info.

The game is rumored to be in the earlier phases of the development cycle and Respawn does not intend to scrap the project. According to Grubb, EA expects this game to launch in 2024 or 2025, with the next year or so being spent on developing prototypes. Respawn will continue working on Apex Legends and the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order alongside this third game.

It does seem like this new IP is a spiritual successor to Titanfall in some ways, as both are AAA first-person shooters designed around mobility. Many fans want to see Respawn work on a new Titanfall game, but this is probably the next best thing. However, this new project is supposedly a single-player-only game, whereas the Titanfall games had a big focus on multiplayer.

Fans of Respawn Entertainment will have plenty to look forward to in the coming years. Apex Legends is currently in Season 11, and rumors suggest that EA plans on announcing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 sometime before E3. Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is one of many Star Wars games currently in development and while a late 2022 release date is possible, it’s possible that it will slip into 2023.
