Films about war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country frequently inspire us, and Akshay Kumar’s new film, Gorkha, is poised to tell one such story. On the occasion of Dussehra, Akshay revealed his next project with director-producer Aanand L Rai, which is a biopic based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a legendary combat hero of the Indian Army’s Gorkha regiment (5th Gorkha Rifles). Akshay Kumar will star in the film and play the legendary war hero on screen.
On Dussehra, Akshay shared his first glimpse as the war hero on his social media accounts. In the ads, Akshay appeared to be a fearsome soldier about to march into war with the enemy. Akshay shared the first look posters on Twitter, writing, “Sometimes you come across tales that make you want to create them. One such film is #Gorkha, which is based on the biography of renowned military hero Major General Ian Cardozo. It’s an honor to play the part of a legend and offer this unique picture.”

Aanand L Rai told Hindustan Times that he was thrilled to work with Akshay for the third movie after Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan. He also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to tell the story of the 1971 war hero. Major General Ian Cardozo, for those who are unaware, is a distinguished military hero whose bravery and sacrifice for the country during the 1971 war is an inspiration. He has also written a number of novels, including 1971: Stories of Grit and Glory from the Indo-Pak War. Akshay Kumar will play him in the biopic, which will be helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Major General Ian Cardozo AVSM SM also came out about the film, saying, “On the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war, I am honoured to have this narrative portrayed. It honours India’s military personnel for their valour and sacrifice. I’m excited to collaborate with Aanand and Akshay on bringing this to reality. This tale exemplifies the principles and spirit of every Indian Army officer.”
Gorkha is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma and will be presented by Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai jointly.
Aside from that, Akshay is starring with Bhumi Pednekar in Rai’s Raksha Bandhan. The film’s production was just completed in New Delhi. Not only that, but Akshay is also starring alongside Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush in Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re.
