Jackman decided to use Twitter to fuel a long-time wish by fans for himself (as Wolverine or pretty much anyone else) to star in a Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds. Encountering a New York police officer on the street, Jackman recorded the patrolman expressing some sage advice for Reynolds’ next movie as the merc with a mouth. While some fans argue that Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa Carlysle should be the priority for making a return in Deadpool 3, there’s certainly something to be said for fulfilling something the series itself seems to have been begging for since the beginning.
“Hey, Ryan, you’ve got to get this guy in Deadpool 3, even if it is for a 10-minute cameo, that would be awesome. That movie will be so cool, so great, it will blow the box office,” said the officer as Jackman filmed. Jackman himself then stoked the flames by adding his own addendum, “You can add him, or I’ll ticket you,” which the officer then repeated gleefully. Jackman then gave a friendly greeting to another officer, suggesting he was regularly on good terms with the police. That doesn’t sound very Wolverine-like, now does it?
Reynolds has been known to joke about Deadpool and pretty much everything else on Twitter from time to time, so it seems only fair that Jackman would join the party. Deadpool and Wolverine have interacted plenty in the comics, and Reynolds has been not-so-subtly hinting at his desire to bring Jackman in as the X-Men hero ever since the first Deadpool movie. Granted, most actors probably wouldn’t make such a hint by stapling a picture of Jackman’s face over their own, but both Deadpool and Reynolds are special cases.
It would even be thematically appropriate for the two to team up. While not necessarily part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both Deadpool and Wolverine have featured in some of the only R-rated movies based on Marvel properties (along with slightly older films like the Blade series). It makes sense, considering how both of them sport supernatural healing abilities. Any director given that kind of material to work with will almost always dial up the violence.
So here’s hoping Reynolds is still just as excited at the idea of such a crossover as he’s always been. A Deadpool and Wolverine team-up would be a dream come true for countless Marvel fans. Plus they would absolutely parody Batman v Superman in some way. That almost seems like a rite of passage with superhero comedies now.
