Open-world games have a growing reputation of being incredibly lengthy. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, for example, takes a serious investment to beat and much more to complete everything. It takes roughly 60 hours to beat and 135 hours to do everything in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is a stretch for many gamers.
There’s no real metric tied between gameplay length, fun, and quality, though some may feel this way. It’s understandable to not feel like a game that is X length is worth X dollars or that some games are too long, no matter the price. It goes a bit far, however, when someone buys a 2-3 hour game for $10 bucks, has a ton of fun with it, and returns it on Steam because it’s a short game. The fun factor is an important quality in any game and should be one of the most important aspects of the price. Open-world games can be decently lengthy and still fun, without needing to pack a ton of content in.
Still, knowing these lengths also helps set expectations, and many may be curious about the upcoming Elex 2. This open-world eurojank RPG from THQ Nordic and Piranha Bytes is something many shouldn’t sleep on, and it’s a sequel (obviously to Elex). Players don’t really need to play the first game for it, but it would certainly help.
Well, it would seem that Elex 2 is largely comparable to the first game. That, and if players intend to check out the first game after Elex 2 hits their radar, they absolutely should. Elex 2 releases March 1, leaving plenty of time to beat the first game.
How Long to Beat Elex
According to game length aggregator HowLongtoBeat.com, Elex takes 26 hours to complete the main story which is a fair medium between short and long for a game. If players want more out of it, and that’s normal for games like this, the main story and extras bring that playtime up to 48 hours. For someone looking to do everything in Elex 2, a completionist playthrough comes in at 84 hours. Overall, that’s still a solid investment but much shorter than some open-world games like the aforementioned AC Valhalla.
How Long to Beat Elex 2
As it stands, the exact length of Elex 2 has yet to be determined, but developer Piranha Bytes has given some indication in the past. The key phrasing is that Elex 2’s open world is no bigger than the first game’s but is more “alive” and interactive. Elex 2 is said to have “at least 60 hours of fun,” likely meaning fresh content and not the actual story. Considering the language used here, it’s likely roughly similar to Elex in terms of game time.
Elex 2 releases on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on March 1, 2022.
