On Saturday, the Game of Thrones prequel, “House of the Dragon” has been renewed for its second season less than a week after it premiered.

The show shattered HBO’s record for the biggest premiere audience for a new show ever. Last Sunday, nearly 10 million people tuned in across all platforms with HBO claiming that number has risen to 20 million after four days of playback, Variety reports.

Executive vice president of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi said that they are beyond proud of what the entire ‘House of the Dragon’ team has achieved with season one. She believes that the phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see TV.

She further thanks George, Ryan, and Miguel for leading them on this journey, and they could not be more thrilled to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with season two.

The show is set 200 years before the events of the Game of Thrones series and based on author George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” book from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” universe, “House of the Dragon” illustrates the story of House Targaryen.
