Horizon: Forbidden West has been widely regarded as one of the best recent releases by the community, and even though it’s been weeks since the game came out on PlayStation 5, players are still finding small details that really bind the experience together. From weapon interactions to creature behavior, Guerrilla Games seems to have gone all out.

The latest such detail comes from Reddit, where user micke187 posted a unique Drill Spear interaction that actually makes perfect sense, but would’ve certainly been overlooked and forgotten about in most other games. It’s not a game mechanic as such, but it works to add yet another layer of depth to Horizon: Forbidden West’s already impressive production values.

Namely, it’s all about Drill Spear’s tendency to actually drill through objects. While the weapon is remarkably useful in combat due to its armor-piercing capabilities, micke187’s video shows that Guerrilla Games thought about the possibility of players throwing it at trees, too, and the Spear actually drills through the tree-trunk as it presumably would in real life. Now, the Drill Spear is no match to Horizon: Forbidden West’s assortment of Legendary Weapons, but tidbits such as this do make it way more interesting than it otherwise would’ve been.

As it currently stands, only 12% of Horizon: Forbidden West players finished it in the first place, which isn’t particularly odd considering just what a large and sprawling game it is. To that end, there’s no telling what other seemingly random details Guerrilla Games may have thought about ahead of time. Interesting visual details such as this one don’t do much on their own, but they certainly have the potential to help immerse players into the game, and Forbidden West seems to manage that part particularly well.

Guerrilla Games ended up adding a fair few new weapons in Horizon: Forbidden West, and discovering new interactions with animals, machines, and the game world, such as the one depicted above, is practically inevitable. Whether that means players should start throwing their Drill Spears at every single object in the game, however, is an entirely different matter.

Players hoping to make their way through the game and maybe discover something new for themselves will be happy to hear that Horizon: Forbidden West Patch 1.08 was released just a few days back, delivering a wide variety of fixes that the game desperately needed. The playing experience is, therefore, almost perfectly stable at this point, though Guerrilla Games will surely deliver a few more updates in the future to resolve the remaining issues.

Horizon Forbidden West is now available exclusively on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
