He was born on December 23, 1971 in Mumbai. He was born to Gopal Krishna Mittal and Bhagwati Devi Mittal. He was raised with his two sisters. Anupam completed his schooling in Mumbai. In 1994, he pursued Business and Commerce from Boston College, Massachusetts. Later, Anupam Mittal also completed MBA in Operations and Strategic Management from Boston College. In 2013, he got married to a  model, Aanchal Kumar and the couple has been blessed with a daughter.

After finishing his graduation from Boston College in 1993, Anupam served as the product manager at MicroStrategy, a business intelligence-based software company. Anupam launched his matrimonial site sagaai.com in 1997. It was re-termed as shaadi.com later.

Shaadi.com is an online platform for matchmaking and is considered as India’s largest matrimonial site.

In 2003, Anupam invested in some of the Bollywood films as a producer. In 2004, Mittal served as the chairperson of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). Anupam launched another venture mauj.com in 2005. Mauj.com is an online platform that offers several mobile-based contents like video games, wallpapers, roaming or messaging apps, etc.

Anupam Mittal has also invested Rs 1 crore in OLA in exchange for its two percent shares. Anupam also worked as co-chairman for his self launched H2 India in 2018. He also acts as an advisor for the website Shaadi Saga. Shaadi Saga is an online wedding planning app. Anupam also works as an advisor of Kae Capital. Kae Capital is a venture capital company. It offers funding to small companies to help them in acquiring growth.

Later, in 2019, he also invested in several movies as a producer. Mittal has also been ranked among the 50 Most powerful People of India by Business Week.
