The Last of Us 2 tells one of the most tragic, serious stories in gaming, meaning that it is the exact opposite of what fans would expect from the family friendly programming seen on the Disney Channel. However, that is part of what makes a recent The Last of Us 2 edit so entertaining.
While fans have shared some silly The Last of Us 2 content before, like an edited poster of the movie We’re The Millers that shows Joel, Ellie, and Tommy smiling, most fan creations match the bleak tone of the series’ world. From art of an infected Ellie to sad images that show how Joel’s daughter Sarah would look like as an adult, the community has made some incredible things over the years. However, it is nice to laugh once in a while, and Reddit user Greysbastard has gone out of their way to make The Last of Us 2 hilarious.
The edit in question captures a scene from very early in the game where players are introduced to Jesse. He has a witty conversation with Ellie, with the well-written dialogue instantly making Jesse likable and establishing that things are somewhat normal in Jackson. However, the edit takes things to another level, with the Redditor that made the piece nailing the Disney channel vibes they were going for. While having the logo in the corner makes a difference, it is the well-used laugh track that really sells the concept.
Not only is there applause once Ellie opens the door and sees Jesse, a great nod to how certain characters will get this reception in sit-coms, but nearly every remark features a laugh track alongside it. This gives the scene an entirely different feel, and as if this was not enough, the ending of the clip takes things to another level. Some cheery music one would usually hear during a Disney channel show plays while the footage cuts away, likely meant to be a stopping point before some commercials begin to play.
As one would expect, this footage has been a big hit with The Last of Us fans, with the post getting 4,000 upvotes and the comments of praising the Redditor for their creativity. Others, like Bitt01, wondered why the laugh track worked so well, something that sparked a debate about whether the tactic was good thing or bad in shows. MyScooterSasha wanted Joel to appear so that some extended applause could be used, while HenryP_Edits made the hilarious suggestion that Abby should draw the Disney channel logo with a golf club.
With The Last of Us HBO series set to focus on the original game, its tone will be nothing like a Disney channel series. Fortunately, fans will always have this outstanding video to laugh at.
