The horror movie X, directed by Ti West and released earlier this year, has a prequel called Pearl. We’ll discover more about Pearl’s history in the next plot, which centres on the villain from the first movie.
We praised X in our review, saying that “it frequently subverts what we’re used to, meaning that it seems like a novel introduction into the genre yet simultaneously leaning into some of the core themes we know and love,” so hopefully Pearl will wow horror lovers as well!
A younger version of the character, played by Mia Goth, shows she’ll do whatever to become as a celebrity, even if that means killing everyone in her path. It’s scheduled for release in the fall.
Scroll down to learn more about the movie, which Ti West and Mia Goth co-wrote, and about this complicated character.
The release date for Pearl
Pearl opens in theatres throughout the world on Friday, September 16. If it will be accessible via streaming services is still unknown.
Plot of Pearl
In Pearl, which is set before the events of X, it is revealed that the cabin where the first movie’s massacre occurs was a boarding house during the war.
The official summary of the movie is as follows: “Trapped on her family’s remote farm, Pearl must take care of her dying father while being overbearingly watched over by her devoted mother.
“In the magnificent, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s legendary villain, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all combine, lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies.”
Therefore, it sounds like it will be just as gory, untamed, and exciting as the first movie, and we know horror fans all over the world can’t wait to find out more about Pearl!
