On the front of Invincible season 2, everything is silent. There is presently a highly regarded R-rated superhero series on Prime Video in development, but nothing is known about where it is in production.

When it was released in April 2021, the first season of the popular Prime Video show astonished viewers and critics. Therefore, it seems sensible that the series’ fan base, which includes individuals who adored both the TV adaptation and the original graphic books, is eager to learn more about the release date for Invincible’s second season.

There is sadly nothing special happening. The latest official update was that lead actor Steven Yeun had returned to the production, although that was three months ago. Seasons 2 and 3 are actively being developed, which is the only other piece of information we’ve learned since the start of the year, according to showrunner Simon Racioppa.

What are the details of Invincible season 2?

Before the Prime Video series’ commencement, we have compiled all the information we have below. That includes the release dates, cast members (aside from Yeun) who are expected to return, storylines, and more.

Release date

On April 29, 2021, the third season of Invincible and the second season were both revealed (opens in new tab). Additionally, the two seasons have been in production for longer than fans may believe, as per scriptwriter Simon Racioppa.

Plot

Mark’s world has been irrevocably altered as a result of all that transpired in that horrific conclusion. Their family has been devastated by his father, Omni-Man. Nolan will soon return with the full force of the Viltrumite species, determined to conquer Earth for their extraterrestrial kingdom, even though he is absent at the moment.

Mark is initially hesitant when Cecil asks him to step in as Earth’s champion in the finale, but that will soon change. He also intends to complete high school, but with all the dangers that are looming for him, that may prove challenging.

Along with the Viltrumite invasion, a lot of Invincible’s former foes will also be making a comeback. The last several episodes of season one show Titan forming new alliances, pink aliens conquering Mars, and that white tiger man still hanging around. Cecil also takes a risk by asking that crazy scientist to produce fresh cyborg goons, presumably to stop Nolan when he returns.

In the future, Mark and Amber’s relationship appears to be solid once more, though it’s difficult to predict how long that will endure. Because things between Rick and William weren’t exactly smooth in season one, let’s just hope William is soon reunited with his girlfriend as well.

Pay special attention to the final montage of season one for additional story hints.

“With thee, I really wanted to remind the audience of the many threads we had and wanted to reveal to them that anything and everything that happened in season one matters,” Kirkman said. “Even the small details will come into play in a big way in the future. I wanted to work in a way more of those pops but it was becoming ridiculous.

“It also gives the sense that Nolan is off the table for now so Mark doesn’t have a mentor anymore but all the problems are still there. Now we’ll have to see a very different Invincible moving forward who has to figure things out on his own.

“It sets the stage for season two and beyond to be a different story, which is where you want to be with a show like this one. You want every season to have a different kind of flavor and feel and exploration of the main character.”

Maybe don’t put too much emphasis on the comics for suggestions. The goal of Kirkman is to also surprise those fans.

“I’m always acutely aware of the fact that one of the appeals of this comic is how frequently unexpected things happen. I want to try and maintain that as much as I can for the audience that has read the comic and is now watching the show. By changing and rearranging things, even if you have read the comics, you still get the sense of, ‘Oh, I didn’t expect this already’ or ‘Oh, I thought this character would be like this or do this but isn’t.’ It brings a little of that excitement from the comics into the show.”

The main villain of season two has been teased by Kirkman, and there is a significant area where the show may diverge significantly from the comics.

Kirkman has a few unexpected possibilities, but one of them is to look into Levy’s origins. Fans don’t know plenty about Levy’s past, even though he serves as the comics’ secondary antagonist. Fans of Invincible have never been told how this pivotal antagonist acquired his primary powers, in contrast to, for example, Spider-Man, where this is an important aspect of character development.

We do, however, understand the origin of his animosity toward Invincible. Levy holds Grayson accountable for an explosion that horrifyingly mutated him beyond recovery. By traveling to many realities where Invincible’s identity is known to the general public, Levy discovers who Invincible is.

Levy’s abilities will undoubtedly enable the series to observe a comic book trope that is currently hugely popular across the platform in the major franchises, whether that be Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022), The Flash (2022), or Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part One (2022).
