Every movie is created and produced over a long period. But occasionally, despite putting a lot of effort into it, the movie is shelved before it is even launched.
The film can suddenly look offensive due to real-world events, problems with the actor, the distributor pulling out, a fight between the filmmakers, or problems with the celebrity. Here are several films that were put on hold and had their initial screenings postponed only days before they were scheduled to fill theatres.
Canceled Movies
Batgirl
The most recent movie to be added to the increasing list of movies we’ll never see is Batgirl. The $US90 million movie had already been filmed and extensively edited, but it will now be scrapped entirely.
When Hollywood studios genuinely think they will improve their financial return on a movie by writing it off as a loss rather than releasing it, they frequently use this disheartening corporate justification, according to Warner Brothers CEO David Zaslav, who stated that the decision to cancel the film was caused by a redirection of the company’s strategic vision.
In the history of the film industry, Batgirl is not the first movie to be canceled.
The Interview
After major theatre chains agreed not to show The Interview, Sony Pictures decided to put off its planned 25 December US premiere.
The movie is about a fictitious plot to assassinate Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea.
Cyberattackers have already targeted Sony, and they’ve issued a warning to the general public to avoid going to theatres that are showing the movie. Regarding how to react to the attack, the US government stated it was reviewing “a range of options.”
Dus
Dus was being filmed in 1997 with Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Raveena Tandon. Due to the unexpected death of the filmmaker, Mukul Anand, this film was not completed. Because the entire film was built on terrorism and patriotism, “Dus” was not released.
City of Lies
City of Lies, a crime drama featuring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker and inspired by the true account of the Notorious B.I.G. murder investigation, has been postponed from its scheduled September 7 release date.
According to what we’ve been told, Global Road, which last summer purchased the film’s previous distributor Open Road, has not announced a new release date.
The announcement comes less than a month after Depp was accused of violence and harassment on the set in April 2017 and was sued by the movie’s location manager.
Dostana 2
Dostana 2, featuring Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya, was canceled with just a small portion of the movie yet to be shot. The film was supposed to be out this year.
