Invincible’s Omni-Man was the subject of new concept art that combines Henry Cavill with the costumed hero. The fan artwork uses the likeness of the Superman actor in order to put him in the role of Invincible’s infamous costumed superpowered alien.
Joel Torres, who is a senior Character Artist at Bitfry Games, has designed a rendition of Omni-Man with likeness of Cavill. Of course, in addition to his role as Superman in the recent live-action DC comic book movies, Cavill plays Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series on Netflix. Casting him as Omni-Man would be a welcome change for the prolific actor because the Invincible character is essentially a much darker take on the Superman archetype. While Cavill’s portrayal of Superman isn’t as light as the other depictions of the character, Omni-Man is homocidal and destined to conquer Earth, a far cry from even the most serious versions of the Man of Steel.
Torres has other artwork on the channel at ArtStation.com and much of it showcases redesigns for other iconic characters such as Sly Cooper, Cyclops, Spider-Man, Thor and even different Power Rangers. The character desgins are all 3D, similar to the image of Cavill as Omni-Man. Cavill has been doing a great job at the roles he’s been given, so if he were to step into the role of Omni-Man, fans would have nothing but good things to say about his portrayal of the super powered alien.
Omni-Man is often looked at as a compelling aspect of Invincible because he is a fearful figure in the story, similar to Homelander from The Boys. Shows like Invincible and The Boys have been taking the superhero genre and flipping it on its head by making super powered beings three dimensional characters with flaws and depth rather than these perfect idealistic role models that people aspire to be.
Omni-Man really shook up the closing moments of Invincible’s first season, so to see him brought back would be the most anitcipated aspect of the season 2. Fans really were shocked by the last moments of the finale, so Omni-Man probably won’t be returning nicely. Hopefully Mark discovers more of his powers and is able to fend off his father and the other Viltrumites in the universe.
Invincible season 2 is currently in development.
