While only appearing in one episode of Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye, Kate Bishop’s father, Derek Bishop, could potentially make his return in a season two after new reports claim a scrapped scene from season one revealed he was alive the entire time.

Following the events of Hawkeye’s season finale, Kate Bishop is technically left without any parents for the first time, as she turned her mother, Eleanor Bishop, in for the crimes that she committed while working for Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. Her father, on the other hand, was revealed to be have been killed in the Battle of New York, though there may have been alternate plans for his fate.

Cosmic Circus reports that the Hawkeye writers originally planned for Derek Bishop to have a surprising return in the finale with the reveal he was in hiding the whole time. Even if Hawkeye season 2 has not yet been confirmed (although heavily hinted at by many of the stars, including Renner), this twist could make for an interesting storyline if another season were to come to fruition. While Bishop would of course be furious for her father abandoning her at such a young age, reports hint that perhaps Derek, unlike Eleanor, would side with Kate and Clint and take over Bishop Securities while also helping them obtain more resources for any future missions.

As intriguing as this sounds, nothing of course has been confirmed. Until a second season is officially announced, fans can catch up on Kate and Clint’s adventures in Hawkeye season one. Created by Mad Men and Bridgerton’s Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye follows Renner’s Clint Barton / Hawkeye post-blip in New York City during the Holidays, as he is forced to team up with the young archer Kate Bishop to stop enemies from his past when he was Ronin in Avengers: Endgame.

The series was met with rave reviews, with many critics praising the focus on the street-level setting not explored quite as much in previous MCU projects. The series also currently has a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-ranked Marvel projects to date. Other than the introduction of exciting new characters like Bishop and Maya Lopez / Echo (who is set to have her own spin-series titled Echo), Hawkeye also sees the return of many familiar faces from previous Marvel projects.

Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova returns after being instructed to hunt down and kill Barton in Black Widow’s post-credits scene and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin from Netflix’s Daredevil made a brief appearance in the finale. With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil also making his appearance in the MCU, the future of phase 4 and beyond is shaping up to be one epic journey.

Hawkeye is available to stream on Disney Plus.
