In our review, GameRevolution gave Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot an 8/10, praising it for being the “most authentic DBZ video game adaptation to date,” its “excellent visuals, voice acting, and sound,” and its “plenty of content for those who want to pursue it.”

Kakarot is a retelling of the anime series Dragon Ball Z. There isn’t any more, and there isn’t any less. It’s not a perfect recreation of the plot, but it’s pretty close. Certain plot sections are deleted, most notably the long training sequences dispersed throughout the episodes. Nonetheless, it covers all of DBZ’s key points, from Raditz’s entrance on Earth to the ultimate battle with Buu.

I’ve already fought Raditz, Freeza, Cell, and the other major villains in earlier games, so their inclusion in this one isn’t surprising. What’s impressive is how much context is provided for each fight. The experience of playing DBZ: Kakarot is almost identical to that of viewing the anime.

Kakarot is a tribute to Akira Toriyama’s cult series Dragon Ball Z. It’s the most comprehensive Dragon Ball Z video game to date, allowing players to feel what it’s like to be one of the renowned superhuman characters.
