The Handmaid’s Tale, a hit show on Hulu, is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name. The novel was first published in 1985, and in 2019, Atwood released The Testaments, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.

Since its debut in 2017, The Handmaid’s Tale has been regarded as a politically timely series due to its emphasis on women’s rights. Warren Littlefield, an executive producer on The Handmaid’s Tale, recently spoke with Deadline about whether the show will be renewed for a sixth season.

When will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 will start?

The Handmaid’s Tale stars Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne, a former Handmaid who escaped from Gilead, a totalitarian society. The series’ focus has shifted from June surviving in Gilead to becoming a resistance fighter.

Hulu is expected to produce an adaptation of The Testaments once The Handmaid’s Tale concludes. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 is set to premiere on Hulu in September, but it has not been renewed for a sixth season.

Littlefield revealed to Deadline that future seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale are up to showrunner Bruce Miller and the show’s writers.

“I think from day one the quest has been to have a powerful, dramatic narrative that, with June taking up the fight, we, as an audience, stand united with June, and June gives us hope. Well, she hasn’t given up and we can’t give up,” Littlefield told Deadline.

What will be the plot twist in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6?

On June 24, the United States Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, effectively ending the constitutional right to abortion.

Because The Handmaid’s Tale revolves around women’s rights, particularly reproductive rights, Littlefield was asked if the Supreme Court’s decision will have an impact on the upcoming season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Littlefield, on the other hand, believes that season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale will not be altered to reflect the repeal of Roe v. Wade.

“I doubt it because we have a pretty compelling narrative.” “I mean, the series echoes what we’re dealing with today,” Littlefield explained to Deadline.

Here is the producer’s take on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6.

Despite the fact that The Handmaid’s Tale is based on material written in 1985, the series is set in the present day and is frequently compared to the current political climate.

“We’ve said many times over the years that we’d like to be less relevant, but the show has been hauntingly relevant.” And it appears to be even worse today,” Littlefield told Deadline.

“I think we all wish we were this bizarre, dystopian, no-one-would-believe-this concept,” he continued. We’d all like to be a made-up graphic novel.”

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 will premiere on Hulu on September 14.
