Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has officially been released and has brought players back into the franchise for the first time since Halo 5. This recent release has brought players to new and classic maps with a mix of familiar modes and weapons. With the full release of the game not coming out until early December, this multiplayer is the only way for players to enjoy Halo Infinite at the moment.

But not everything in Halo Infinite is going to be familiar to players. During a multiplayer match, players might stumble across an event known as a Shock Chain and not understand how it was triggered or what it entailed. For those players looking to learn what a Shock Chain is and how to start one in Halo Infinite, this guide is here to help.

What is a Shock Chain in Halo Infinite?

A Shock Chain is an event that occurs when players electrocute multiple enemies to death at the same time. If done correctly, electric weapons and throwables can be used against multiple players so long as they are close enough. Because they both produce electrical currents that reach out for nearby metals, Dynamo Grenades, and the Shock Rifle are both ideal weapons for players trying to trigger a Shock Chain. These, along with the new weapons in Halo Infinite, can be found at different spawning locations around each map.

Players will know they have successfully pulled off a Shock Chain when they earn the Chain Reaction medal in Halo Infinite. Other telltale signs are when an electrical current is seen flowing over an opponent and when the killed player’s death notification has a lightning symbol in it.

How to Trigger a Shock Chain in Halo Infinite

Shock chains can be a challenge to take advantage of, especially in large-scale battles on Halo Infinite’s multiplayer maps. But, after practice, triggering Shock Chains can become relatively straightforward. First and foremost, players need to equip themselves correctly; the Shock Rifle is useful, but Dynamo Grenades are more so. Both can damage multiple close-together enemies, but the Dynamo Grenades can reach further, making Shock Chains easier to get.

Secondly, players need to focus on high traffic and tight areas. Electricity won’t spread out over a wide area, so players need to throw their Dynamo Grenades or shoot their Shock Rifle at closely-grouped enemies. This weapon and throwable will only do so much damage, though, and so it may be best to try and damage the targets as much as possible first to then allow the electricity to act as the killing blow.

Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer Beta is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the full game launching on December 8.
