The major networking problems with Halo Infinite are reaching critical mass, as players are now reporting some of the worst lag yet. Players in matches are physically teleporting due to the inconsistent connection.

Even though Halo Infinite’s multiplayer was well-received at launch, over time players have begun noticing problems with the game’s networking. Desync issues plague matches and completely ruin what would otherwise have been great plays.

A Halo Infinite player recently captured a video clip showing an extreme case of just how bad the issues can be. A player going for a melee kill lunges for the target and appears to land the hit, but despite the melee animation finishing, it fails to register and lets the other player retaliate with a clean kill. This is similar to previous Halo Infinite desync problems, but having it shown through the perspective of another player rather than only the two involved highlights just how frustrating the issue is.

Interestingly, a reply points out that the damage processing issues also happen in LAN matches, so it is possible that server issues are only partially the cause. Unfortunately, the end result is the same regardless of what is causing the problem, and it means even LAN players are possibly not safe from frustrating problems. The issues with the game’s damage processing and networking come alongside a decline in Halo Infinite’s player count, which is probably related but also means that the game may regain players if the problems are fixed soon.

Unfortunately, the issues extend far beyond melee combat; players airing frustrations with the game is commonplace, and every clip seems to show yet another issue rooted in the same problem. For some reason, sometimes players completely avoid damage that should have been lethal if the game was working as intended, whether the damage is from a melee lunge or two rocket launcher blasts in a row. Normally, an issue like this would be fixed quickly, so the lack of resolution is concerning both for the current players and for the future of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.

Desync is bad enough, but it is also far from the only problem Halo Infinite players are facing; some are also having trouble with the challenge tracking and XP rewards in Halo Infinite. While the issues are not necessarily related to each other, they build on the annoying tendencies of each other and could be a major reason why Halo Infinite is losing players. Hopefully, 343 Industries can turn the situation around, especially with how strong the initial launch was.

Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
